It’s possible WWE already knew about this desire. That’s why the company has put him in a feud with the current Universal Champion, Roman Reigns, since he returned and won the Royal Rumble Men’s Championship match.

Edge paired up with The Mysterios to take down Roman Reigns

On SmackDown: July 16th, 2021 The Rated-R Superstar paired up with the current SmackDown tag team champions to take on Roman Reigns and The Usos.

The entire battle was a feat of mind games and strength. All six Superstars were at the top of their game while the crowd cheered on for their favourite. This match ended with Edge humiliating Roman Reigns with a Chair-Rod Crippler.

The Rated-R Superstar will get a title shot against Roman Reigns at Money in the Bank 2021. This will be the second time he gets a title shot since his return.

The first title opportunity was at WrestleMania 37. He won the Royal Rumble men’s match to earn the right to challenge any champion for the Show of Shows. He challenged The Tribal Chief, and WWE booked him in a triple threat match against Reigns and Daniel Bryan for WrestleMania 37.

In that match, Reigns achieved a dominating victory by stacking his opponents and winning via a double pin fall.

After WrestleMania 37, Edge took a break from the ring. During this time, Roman Reigns had a brief bout with Rey Mysterio after he attacked Dominik Mysterio. This started when The Usos couldn’t keep their word to Reigns and defeat the SmackDown tag team champions.

Rey Mysterio and Roman Reigns were supposed to have a match at Hell in a Cell. However, it got preponed and they had a match on the SmackDown episode prior to the PPV.

After Reigns defeated Mysterio, the question was who would be his next opponent. This is when Edge made a comeback, and immediately challenged him for a title match at Money in the Bank.
