Pat McAfee, the star commentator of SmackDown, has decided to take a deal from ESPN for their show College GameDay. McAfee is a former NFL player and played the sport for 8 years before becoming a sports analyst. McAfee has worked with ESPN previously before joining WWE.

The news of Pat McAfee leaving the WWE and joining ESPN spread around the internet like wildfire. His future in the WWE universe was on the verge of uncertainty after the news. Later it was cleared by the Head of Creative Triple H that McAfee will be joining SmackDown again after finishing his deal with ESPN.

Recently Pat McAfee also opened up about his plan of taking a leave from WWE and joining ESPN’s GameDay. “SmackDown will be on hold for a little bit me commentating while I do college GameDay. I’m still very much in the WWE family. As one OG in the WWE said to me in a message, ‘Hey, now one of our guys is on College GameDay.’” said McAfee.

McAfee stated on his YouTube channel that he only put the WWE on hold for a while. However, that was not the original plan designed by McAfee to take the deal with ESPN.

Pat McAfee’s original plan to join ESPN

McAfee is an individual who loves sports and works almost seven days a week. McAfee has his own YouTube channel, The Pat-McAfee Show, where he analyzes sports activities on a regular basis. When ESPN offed the deal to McAfee, he decided to work for the WWE and GameDay simultaneously. But the executives of the WWE gave him a better opportunity.

McAfee mentioned that he had done this kind of work in the past. “The original thought for me was I could SmackDown and GameDay.” But when McAfee talked to the executives of WWE they advised him to take the time off. “

They actually were the ones that said, ‘Hey man if you’re going to do GameDay which is great opportunity congratulations’[…] You cannot be traveling overnight for the entirety of the season it’s not good for your health it’s not good for your family it’s not good for anything. Whenever the time is right, we will have you definitely back in our family.’”

So Pat McAfee will be making his return to the WWE soon. The decision made by the WWE for McAfee goes on to show how much the company cares about its employees.
