The state of WWE wrestlers in the pandemic era
What we would know as the deadly Wednesdays, WWE would release 20 people contracted with the company on April 15th, 2020, a Wednesday. 19 of which were wrestlers including the living legend, Kurt Angle. Along with the release, WWE announced that these reductions will be temporary in nature. But it has been 2 years since WWE released Rusev, who returned to the sport as Miro.
Every media outlet criticized the move, but WWE kept on releasing all throughout 2020, 2021, and 2022. To this day, more than 150 wrestlers have been released or asked for their release. They released most of them under the pretense of budget cuts. And there was no consistency in the releases, either.
