Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock, served WWE actively only for a brief period of seven years (1996-2003) other than his occasional returns. But during his brief period in the early 2000s, almost every segment with The Rock was memorable. One such moment was shared by a forgotten WWE Superstar who shared the stage with The Great One.

During SmackDown’s early years perhaps the most challenging task for WWE was to entertain the fans amidst the dilemma of the infamous 9/11 attack. But a former WWE star shared his special moment when he fought Dwayne Johnson while entertaining the fans.

Forgotten star recalls his special moment with Dwayne Johnson

The attack of 9/11 is an unfortunate and tragic event in USA’s history. WWE had a challenge to lift the spirits of the fans during the SmackDown show amidst the pain they were going through. The Rock took on the challenge to entertain fans and supporting him was Shawn Stasiak. Though Stasiak has shared the ring with Kurt Angle (in Angle’s debut match) he considers his match with The Rock to be special.

Recalling the incident in an interview with Nick Hausman, Stasiak said, “Again, lots of fear and anxiety going on, but to work with Dwayne was really special for me, too. I wish we had more time or more of an opportunity of working together, but just to have that moment. I was glad to be part of it.”

Stasiak expressed his happiness while working with one of the biggest superstars of WWE. He had a lot of anxiety before the moment, but it was special for him to work in a segment with The Rock.

Stasiak was working as a jobber in the WWE back then and he had a goofy character that would work as comic relief. He was happy to entertain the fans that night as he said, “It was a stupid, goofy character, but at least it made people laugh, and it put smiles on faces, and it eased up some of the tension that we all felt. So I was happy to be part of that.”

The segment between The Rock and Stasiak began when The People’s Champion issued a challenge for his WCW title.

The Rock humbles Shawn Stasiak to entertain the Houston Crowd

WWE has uploaded a video of the moment on its official YouTube channel. In the episode that aired on 13th September, The Rock issues a challenge for his WCW title at Houston. Answering the call was Shawn Stasiak, who was accompanied by Stacy Keibler.

Stasiak runs down to the ring only to be thrown out directly. He tries again but fails before directly challenging The Rock for an opportunity. 

The Rock accepted the challenge and finished the match with a Rock Bottom, thus entertaining the crowds while Stasiak was left embarrassed.
