SummerSlam 2023 is just a few hours away, and fans cannot keep calm anymore. The match card is already pretty decked up, with some of the biggest names in the industry competing at the event. With eight matches scheduled up, only two of them involve women. With Rhea Ripley not defending her title at the PLE, fans look forward to Asuka’s title defense.

Asuka would be defending her title against Bianca Belair, and Charlotte Flair at the event. All three women involved have a brief history against each other. However, recently fans became worried about another history involving Asuka.

Back in 2020, Asuka was in a heated feud with Sasha Banks and Bayley alongside her partner Kairi Sane. Sane and Asuka formed The Kabuki Warriors and were extremely successful female tag-team wrestlers. However, later that year, Sane would depart from WWE, and return to Japan.

Her departure from the promotion disbanded the team and left Asuka alone. During this time Asuka was the RAW Women’s Champion and both stars expressed a desire of facing each other at one point. WWE had plans of pitting Asuka against Sane at SummerSlam in 2020, but the match never took place. Sane decided to return to Japan and not re-sign with WWE. However, with Sane a free agent now, she might possibly have something up her sleeve.

The speculations regarding this rose, after Kairi Sane took to her Twitter to upload a cryptic post with just the symbol of a clock. This raised questions about her heading to WWE, and possibly starting a feud with her former partner Asuka.

At SummerSlam fans expect Flair or Belair to take home the victory. However, having Asuka lose clean would be downplaying her character. Involving Sane in Asuka’s loss would open the doors for her to have another feud, while still being booked strong. This would also be a more concrete reason for them to start a rivalry than simply wanting to wrestle each other like it was originally planned three years ago.

However, handing Charlotte Flair the title victory would not be a good sign, as fans clearly don’t want her, and Belair has been a champion for long enough. Asuka was the only fresh choice, but with rumors of Sane appearing, she might either cost Asuka the title or align herself with her.
