Former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Pitched NXT Return Before Release

Peyton Royce and Billie Kay are very well known for their time in the WWE. During that time, the two talented wrestlers formed a tag team called The IIconics. The two athletes instantly hit it off with the WWE Universe and became crowd favorites. The IIconics even ended up becoming the WWE tag team champions.

However, their journey with the company was cut short, as WWE released both superstars in April 2021. Many believed the reason behind this was that the WWE couldn’t find anything creative for the former Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Peyton Royce thought of getting back to WWE NXT

Speaking with Cageside Seats, Peyton Royce revealed that she even considered going back to NXT before the company released them.

“I actually asked to go back, and it was a kind of, you know, it ‘was being looked into,’ is what I was told and then I got released,”

The team also talked about their run on the main roster and how they were portrayed as a heel team when they won the Women’s Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania.

They confessed that they would’ve loved the idea of being a baby-face team and getting cheered on by the fans.

“Yeah, I mean, we would have loved to explore what it would be like to be the good guys. But on top of that, like when, when we kind of came back, we had a little bit of a hiatus, and we came back early 2020 and we were kind of in the championship story.”

“I wish we got to stay in that a bit longer because that was my favorite era of us. It was our best combination of who we are as people and as characters and then the fact that we could still go in championship matches, as well.”
