The relationship the two share is rather complicated. They both had something to say about each other from the experiences they had during a very crucial moment in their careers. While the American Nightmare has a lot of respect for his father, the late Dusty Rhodes, there was a moment in his life where The American Dream was very much disappointed by him. In his documentary, American Nightmare: Becoming Cody Rhodes, he opened up about the same. In an interview for the show, he said how his father told him to quit while he was mentoring Seth Rollins along with other stars on NXT.

He said, “He’s telling me I should quit meanwhile he’s grooming a Seth Rollins. He’s grooming a Roman Reigns. He’s grooming a Sami Zayn.” Rhodes further added, “Really, just it’s like, he’s got his little league team, and they’re just hitting home runs and I can’t play. The worst, and it made me resent all Dusty’s kids. Made me resent them and made me resent the idea that he would be a mascot for the developmental. It was tough.” While he hated all the Dusty Rhodes’ mentees including Seth Rollins, The Visionary had some words for Cody Rhodes.

After he ended up facing Rhodes at WrestleMania 38, Rollins was not happy with him. In an interview, he said, “The only disrespect I had for Cody Rhodes was that he tried to come in and steal my spotlight. I shouldn’t say ‘tried to steal it.” After accusing him of stealing his spotlight he called Rhodes a Selfish S.O.B.

But Rollins made these comments back in January 2023. Let’s see what he has to say now.

The relationship between the two has evolved

Rollins in a late 2023 interview with Sports Illustrated talked about his relationship with Rhodes which was way before the team-up. He said, “Our relationship is very complex. I think that’s the best way to put it. I think there’s mutual respect there. I think when you have two guys at our caliber there’s respect, but there’s also a level of competition.” Rollins further added that the two have a healthy competition.

Fans noticed the hint of respect the first time when Seth Rollins wanted Cody Rhodes to challenge him at WrestleMania 40 instead of Roman Reigns. He stated that he wanted to test his limits and would love to see it against someone like Rhodes. However, this respect made him side with Rhodes when he was slapped by Dwayne Johnson at the WrestleMania XL Kickoff Press Event. But you let us know in the comments below whether they are friends in real life or they share a healthy working relationship.
