The Rock, on the other hand, was from a family of wrestlers. However, Henry confirms the fact that nothing in life came easy to the 48-year-old.

“It ain’t many wrestlers that were born into wrestling. Everybody said, oh another guy whose dad was a wrestler, another whose grandfather was a wrestler. He came into the business and became the best, arguably that ever existed. I put the Rock right up there with Ric Flair, The Undertaker, Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, like the greatest, Steve Austin? He’s right there.

“And when he came from Canada, he was playing for the Calgary Stampeders, and he realized that you know what I’m not gonna make the kind of money playing football in Canada as I could wrestle. He came back here with seven dollars in his pocket,” said Henry.

Mark Henry on how the two worked together

Henry says that when Rock came to WWE, he didn’t have a place to stay. Henry offered to let him stay at his home, and that’s where their bond grew.

“When he signed with WWE. He didn’t have a place to live. So me being already at the training facility, I said man you can move in with me till you get on your feet. Once you get on your feet, you get your own place. And he moved in with me and ended up never getting a place.

“We just lived together, trained together, and ate together. You know we traveled around, entertained ourselves together, and then we both ended up getting sent together to Memphis to Jerry Lawler’s territory, to you know own our craft and perfect it,” Henry said.

“We both went to Memphis and worked our ass off. We both will be Hall of Famers. I became a Hall of Famer two years ago when I retired from wrestling after 23 years. Dwayne is not technically retired yet.

“But the first day he says, hey, I’m retired, I’m never wrestling again. He’ll go onto the Hall of Fame, and that’s the first two guys that Vince McMahon picked to be in the developmental system. There was no developmental system before Dwayne and me, and we both killed it,” explains Henry.

The 48-year-old also mentioned that he looks after Rock’s daughter, who is currently training with the WWE developmental system in Orlando. Towards the end of the interview, Henry explains how The Rock helped him with his career in pro-wrestling.

“He is another guy that I wouldn’t exist in pro wrestling if I didn’t have the education and teaching and the understanding that he helped provide.”

Mark Henry and The Rock are examples of how close WWE superstars are with each other off-screen. We hope to see them together in-ring soon enough.
