After leaving the WWE, the road back home was a long and tiresome one. With highs and lows, Rhodes and his wife faced it all together. Rhodes worked the indie circuit and finally helped establish All Elite Wrestling AEW. However, one constant apart from Brandi was ‘Kingdom.’

Kingdom, or as fans like to call it, “The Whoa” song, thanks to its now iconic chorus, was written by the band Downstait. It is a band that has its roots deep in pro wrestling. Did you know that the band is responsible for the themes of other wrestlers as well?

Yes, the band from Fort Wayne, Indiana, has worked on songs like ‘I Come To Play’ for The Miz, ‘Here To Show The World’ for Dolph Ziggler, ‘Hot Mess’ for Chelsea Green, and many more. The band partnered with legendary WWE producer Jim Johnson to churn out Rhodes’ masterpiece.

The song that now defines Rhodes has been his partner while he appeared at IMPACT Wrestling, Ring of Honor, New Japan Pro Wrestling, and NWA. The song became popular as he used it on AEW. However, this was almost not going to be Rhodes’ entrance song in the WWE.

Cody Rhodes almost returned to the WWE without Kingdom

When Rhodes was in talks to return to the WWE, there was an issue with his entrance music. While on the Insight with Chris Van Vliet show, the band members talked about the song. They claimed that Rhodes was adamant about using the song wherever he went and told the WWE, “If I go back to WWE, I am taking kingdom with me.”

The song is now a part of what Rhodes is as a babyface. From the moment the first note of the song hits, the fans in attendance are energized, waiting for the chorus. Arenas burst with ‘Whoa’ whenever the song hits and that’s the sign that Rhodes is in the house.
