Regal gave the WCW legend a hard time in the ring until Goldberg would defeat Regal to continue his undefeated streak. Also, it was reported Regal fought more aggressively than expected.

This match turned out to be Regal’s second last match in WCW before he left WCW in 1998. He once again returned to WCW in 1999. But following his match against Goldberg, there have several discussions about his performance in the match.

William Regal opens up about this infamous match on WCW Monday Nitro in 1998

In his book, Walking a Golden Mile, Regal revealed he had received orders to take Goldberg to the distance. He revealed the idea was to have a six-minute competitive match, and then Goldberg would get the victory.

He admitted he did one or two moves as the bell rang, but he got no response from Goldberg as he did nothing.

Further, Regal recalled, “I had to keep attacking him to keep the match going. I was opening myself up for him to retaliate, and he wasn’t taking the openings.”

He added, “I was even telling him to do this or that, and he just wasn’t doing it. I don’t know what his excuses were for the match. All I know is that he’s blamed me publicly for it.” (H/T: Pro Wrestling STORIES)

He added, “I’d love to f***ing scrap with him right now. I’d have loved to at the time, too, had I known what he was going to do, but at the end of the day, it was resentment.” (H/T: Pro Wrestling STORIES)
