Dave Meltzer just dropped some massive news regarding Roman Reigns. According to the head honcho of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the Rock vs Roman Reigns will not happen in 2021 but will happen in 2022. He said that the WWE creative team were informed that Dwayne Johnson would not be available in 2021 at all.

“According to those very close to the situation, Johnson has brought up the possibility of doing a match with Reigns in 2022, but that’s a long way away, and he’d be 49 by that time,” said Meltzer.
The Rock competing at the age of 49 will be incredibly risky, considering he’ll be in the ring with one of the hardest hitting superstars of the 21st century.
“Obviously, this is all up to him; he wants in this year tomorrow, or next month, and he’s in. But on the creative side, they’ve been told he’s a no go.”
The Rock’s Hollywood schedule has kept him away from WWE for a long time. He makes a single appearance a year, much to the chagrin of the WWE Universe.
A WrestleMania dream match between The Rock and Roman Reigns has been teased for a very long time. Reigns and Rock have had different career trajectories, but with Reigns adopting the new Tribal Chief persona, the face vs heel dynamic makes for an interesting match.

The Rock’s last WWE match came in 2016. At WrestleMania 32, The Rock registered the quickest win in WWE history by beating Erick Rowan in six seconds. The bell rung and one Rock Bottom later, Rocky was the winner.

Roman Reigns has been on an absolute roll as the WWE Universal Champion. By assuming his role as the head of the table, he has established himself as one of the most terrifying superstars of 2020. Aligning with Paul Heyman added to his heel credibility which has only made the fans like him more.
A match between the Rock and Reigns would set the world on fire. The promo exchanges between Reigns and his cousin, between the Rock and Paul Heyman, and of course the eventual match will be highly awaited. This dream match would be the closest thing to Hollywood Hulk Hogan vs the Rock at WrestleMania X8.
