John Cena has always been a Vince McMahon guy. The WWE higher-ups chose him as the face of the company over stars like Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar, and others. But McMahon didn’t just utilize him as a key part of his company’s puzzle, he also provided his unbridled support when it came to mistakes. One such instance dates back to Royal Rumble 2005. This was the infamous event where Cena messed things up via a hilarious botch involving Batista.

Retrospecting the infamous event, the 16-time World Champion came clean on his accountability. Moreover, he gave Vince McMahon due credit for safeguarding his image.

John Cena lauds Vince McMahon for his “guidance”

During his recent appearance in the Impaulsive podcast, Logan Paul asked Cena how he rectified his error during the Royal Rumble match in 2005. The leader of the Cenation noted in a fair response,

”Trust the process. I know I f***ed up. And we know that that’s not the way it’s supposed to go. There is a sense of guidance; we’re all on the same team. Our referee can be a guide for us… You begin to listen to the audience and feel how long you can milk a moment and see if they’re giving you any direction. Then, as we trust the process, out comes Vince McMahon, and we’re like, ‘Oh great, this is going to be fixed,’ and he tears both of his quads getting into the ring.”

”To the testament of the work ethic and … just the absolute gumption and dedication of Vince McMahon, with torn quads, he gets himself in the ring and gives us the guidance to finish the event. He is the authority figure in WWE, he can say ‘restart the match.’ We restart it and Dave wins.” Cena continued paying gratitude to the ex-WWE head honcho for covering up for his mistake in that night.

The chaotic conclusion in the high-voltage Royal Rumble match where Cena and Batista ended up as the final two contenders. The ending saw both stars eliminating each other and touching the floor at the same time, leading to heavy confusion. All thanks to McMahon for keeping up the actual plan through a timely intervention.
