Injuries are a part and parcel of the wrestling business. It requires years of practice to perfect the craft and perform the moves safely. However, even a minute misstep from any competitor runs the real risk of getting a major injury issue. That is what happened to wrestling legend Sting at the hands of Seth Rollins.
He was arguably the biggest name to not put a foot inside a WWE arena until 2014 that is. The Icon made his debut in the company at Survivor Series, sending the watching audience into a frenzy. Fans thought many dream matches could now be a possibility but the veteran performer’s run in the Stamford-based promotion was curtailed due to an injury.

The WWE Hall of Famer recently appeared in Ric Flair’s To Be The Man podcast. He delved into the extent of his injury and spoke about it at length. The 6-time WCW world champion said, “Yeah, my legs just I there was no strength they were they were just the power in my legs was just kind of going away. And I felt like I didn’t have control over them and I didn’t. I had a temporary paralysis and you know for a few minutes I thought I don’t think I can continue, I think I’m done.”
On somehow finishing the match he said, “But you know, I can’t do this I mean this is, the stakes are so high and you know I can’t do this to Seth. Somehow or another it just kind of came back enough where ok I can do another minute or two here.”
Many had thought that the 64-year-old would never appear in WWE. There were many expectations from Sting regarding his career at the company. But sadly the horrendous injury meant that he was not able to compete at the highest level. The former NWA Heavyweight champion still had a notable clash against Triple H at WrestleMania 31 during his stint.
But what were the circumstances that led to his neck problem while competing against Rollins in the squared circle?
When and how Sting sustained the career-threatening injury?
Sting was booked quite strongly after his arrival in the wrestling juggernaut in November 2014. He received a WWE World Heavyweight championship opportunity against then-champion Rollins.
Rollins used his customary buckle bomb which usually involves his opponents going back first onto the turnbuckle. But the AEW star landed awkwardly on his neck during the maneuver and all but ended his career in the ring.

It was Rollins’ second match of the night as he was beaten by John Cena earlier in the night for the US title. It wasn’t until 2021 that Sting again competed in the ring in AEW, where he is currently in a contract.
Pro wrestling can be very cruel as he admittedly experienced temporary paralysis during his 2015 match. Again highlighting the fact that things can go awry in the squared very fast irrespective of one’s experience.
