Several WWE stars have left the promotion only to come back years later. Since they leave due to some underlying reason, they want the issue rectified upon their return. Matt Cardona is no different for wishing the same. The former WWE wrestler recently appeared on a podcast and talked about several things while also hinting at his possible return to the company.

Cardona went on to briefly mention what exactly bugged him during his time in the company. Besides that, he also said that he wouldn’t like it if the company repeats the same things over again, particularly because he considers himself a much better wrestler now.

Cardona’s demand from the company

WWE released Cardona, known as Zack Ryder during his stint, in April 2020 after working a long time with him. The wrestler then signed with AEW in a limited contract that ended on October 3 of the same year. Since 2021, we can see Cardona in Impact Wrestling. But now, the wrestler seems to have other plans as he aims his shot at WWE.

In a recent episode of the ‘Heated Shenanigans Podcast’, Cardona appeared to catch up with wrestling fans regarding his career. During the podcast, he said, “I did the whole ‘just the guy on the roster’ thing. I have no desire to do that again. If I’m gonna be there (WWE), I want to matter. And I think I proved over the past three years that I’m more than capable of holding my own.

Cardona feels like WWE did not treat him well enough during his time as Ryder. Now that he is aiming to return to WWE, he wants to be booked better.

Since Cardona looks forward to joining WWE once again, we could say that he is putting forward his conditions to the company before they take him back. But why did Cardona leave the promotion in the first place?

Why did Matt Cardona leave WWE?

Cardona joined WWE for the first time in 2006. The wrestler shared a long journey with the company, becoming a recognizable talent for the time he spent with them. Yet Cardona felt like he deserved more recognition than he was getting and wanted to find his place in the wrestling world again.

However, that’s not the whole story of why he left. In an interview, Cardona explained the real reason behind his WWE release.

During that interview, he acknowledged that his release happened due to a contract negotiation problem. Since Cardona was stressed about the renewal for over a year, he felt relieved when the company released him in 2020.

In the same interview, he also mentioned that he is grateful that he got to be a part of WWE. Now that he has put forward his conditions, it will be interesting to see if WWE makes a move for him.
