

William Regal had the best career in WWE as an on-screen authority figure since the early 2000s. He was part of several infamous feuds over his career, such as his tag team matches with Tajiri and his run after winning the King of the Ring.
The Blackpool native is a two-time Intercontinental Champion, a five-time Hardcore Champion, a four-time European Champion, a four-time World Tag Team Champion, and the 2008 King of the Ring.

However, before joining the WWE, Regal was a part of the rival company WCW. He was at Ted Turner’s promotion for a total of six years, that is 1993 to 1998 and 1999 to 2000.

In 1997, William Regal was involved in an accident along with wrestler Chris Benoit and Nancy Sullivan. Regal referred it as a near-death experience for him. They were returning to the hotel from the gym to take a shower and then proceed to the pay-per-view for the match.

Regal stopped his car at a stop sign. While waiting, he saw a car coming fast towards them in the rear-view mirror. However, due to the stop sign, he didn’t move his car as there was a car at the side. Regal knew their car was going to be hit by the car racing toward them. He shared the story on his Gentlemen Villain podcast.

Regal said, “This guy hit us. I have no idea what speed, and flipped my car three times, and it was actually my car were upside down on the roof. The only thing that saved all of us was I was in a Ford Explorer. The roof was crushed against my head.”
He added, “So if I’d have been in anything else, I think it would have killed us. I was upside down with the roof crushed on my head. I look across and Chris is angling with his tongue out and I look across at Nancy and her eyes are closed. I think they’re both dead.” (H/T Wrestling News)
Regal claimed the driver was very much drunk and replaced seats with a teenage boy in the car. Regal somehow manage to get out of the car and also removed Nancy Sullivan and Chris Benoit outside.

Later that night, William had his match against Prince Iaukea and claims he has no recollection of what other things happened that day. A few days later, Regal felt the pain in his neck as they landed upside down when the other car crashed into them.
