For decades, Canada has been a constant supply line for talents in the pro-wrestling world. All major promotions, including the WWE, have benefitted from wrestlers crossing the border to ply their trade in the USA. The Stamford-based promotion has been privy to the kayfabe antics of a brash America-hating Canadian, who didn’t mince his words while showing love for his country.

Now, a retired WWE legend, the former wrestler has opened up on his desire to square off against John Cena, in the hope of rekindling his former gimmick.

WWE Hall Of Famer has a special request for John Cena

Bret Hart had a successful stint in the WWE, both as a face and heel. The Hitman is part of one of WWE’s greatest storylines- as an American-Bashing Canadian. The 65-year-old Canadian wrestler started it after turning heel in 1997, following his win against Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 13.

The act would involve a verbal volley against the US, much to the chagrin of the crowd. This gave him real heel heat from the crowd to work with. Recently, the five-time WWE Champion appeared as a guest on the Johnny I Pro Show and shared his plans. He said he would love to work with WWE icon John Cena and re-run his old gimmick.

Following a sedate start, he has found success, which had contributed heavily to his growing net worth of $80 million. But before he donned fancy costumes and played various characters, Cena made a case for himself as a true American.

US Championship, flag match: Cena stands up for his country

Shortly after becoming a 13-time WWE champion, John Cena began feuding with former superstar Rusev for the United States Championship. After a failed attempt at Fastlane in 2015, Cena continued his pursuits. It resulted in a title match at WrestleMania 31. The Doctor of Thugonomics managed to pin the Bulgarian Brute to win his fourth United States belt.

He later defended it against a host of opponents during the course of his 147-day title reign. Cena started another feud with Rusev in 2017 in a flag match. Cena and his opponent fought for their respective flags, USA and Bulgaria.

John Cena managed to win that encounter as well, and as promised by him ahead of the match, kept the US flag flying high. So, it’s not surprising that Hart would list Cena as his choice of opponent for the heel gimmick. But will John Cena take up the challenge? Only time will tell us.
