“I Will Be Along Shortly” – Samoa Joe Forced to Relinquish NXT Title as WWE Medical Shares Injury Scare

Samoa Joe made history when he became the first-ever wrestler to become a three-time NXT Champion by defeating Karrion Kross at NXT TakeOver 36. Samoa Joe revealed Sunday night on Twitter that he has sustained an injury, and cannot compete to defend his belt further. As a result, he is relinquishing the NXT Championship.

Samoa Joe is out for an indeterminate time

The ‘Samoan Submission Machine’ took to Twitter and addressed his fans by telling them he will relinquish the NXT Championship. WWE recently drafted him to NXT after they let him go earlier this year.

However, Joe also added in the end that he will be back soon to get back his title from the champion of that time and become the four-time NXT Champion.

“Recently, WWE medicals informed me that due to certain injuries, they would like to have me step away from the ring for a brief, yet still indeterminate amount of time. I realize that this week, we are on the cusp of a new NXT. We are on the brink of a new era in our history, and I realize that era deserves a fighting champion. And that’s why it makes this very difficult decision, very easy to make.

“Effective immediately, I relinquish the NXT Championship. Best of luck to those who will vie for it. My sincerest condolences to whoever wins because I will be along shortly to recollect what’s mine,” Joe said.

For now, the nature of the injury is still unknown, which puts the fans in the dark about the timeline of Joe’s return to the in-ring competition.
