This could mean that he’ll be present on July 16th. If not make an appearance, he’ll be backstage. To keep things interesting, he could cut a backstage promo, but not yet come out to the ring. There is a plethora of directions that WWE could pursue.
Another reason it’s possible this meant he’ll be there is because of previous reports. Those reports claimed he’ll be making his WWE comeback on July 16th, 2021. There’s no saying if the date has changed or not, however, he is definitely coming back to WWE!
Who could John Cena return against?
The best person to return against is the Universal Champion. Currently, its Roman Reigns. Hence, if The Invisible Man returns on July 16th, he could possibly challenge The Tribal Chief.
On the other hand, if he returns after Money in the Bank, it could be Edge. Why? Well, there’s a chance The Rated-R Superstar could take over the Universal Championship title at Money in the Bank where he is taking on Roman Reigns.

There is another direction that WWE could pursue. Since the company wants to make SummerSlam 2021 the biggest event of the year, it will require a major main event. What’s better than two Superstars battling? Three Superstars battling.
Technically, John Cena could return against either Reigns or Edge. Following that, a feud forms between the three and WWE Books a triple threat match between the three megastars to headline SummerSlam 2021 main event.
