Bill Goldberg was one of the biggest WCW superstars in the company’s heyday. For his contribution to WCW and WWE, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018.

However, few people know that professional wrestling was not the first combat sport that Goldberg chose; in fact, he was an enthusiast of mixed martial arts. He revealed in a recent interview with TMZ Sports that he even trained with UFC legends like Randy Couture and Mark Coleman.

If you know anything about my background when it comes to MMA, I had one of the largest MMA gyms in the country back in the late ’90s. That was a dream of mine.

While discussing the prospect, Goldberg said his ground-game was a weakness, but he could do well as a stand-up fighter.

“I think my stand-up skills would have played well, no question because a lot of people have no idea as to what I’ve done in the past. But, I’d be lacking in the ground game, there’s no doubt.”

Goldberg said he would end up hurting himself

Although both are combat sports, MMA and Wrestling need different training regimes, and people who excel in one often fail in the other.

“And the problem with a guy like myself is I’d end up hurting myself more so than getting hurt by the other person. I’ll break a hand on someone’s face! I’ll blow my shoulder out trying to choke somebody! At the end of the day, I’m my own worst enemy!” said Goldberg.

So the long-winded answer is absolutely I would have loved to have done it if the opportunity was such that it was comparable, if not more advantageous, in the world of professional wrestling. But, at the time, it was a no-brainer for me.”

Like we said earlier, Goldberg did well for himself in the wrestling business. He is the only superstar to have been WCW World Heavyweight, WWE World Heavyweight, and WWE Universal Champion.
