At WWE Fastlane, Big E retained the Intercontinental Championship in the most unorthodox fashion. While Apollo Crews had him rolled up in a small package, Big E sprang out of the move and got his shoulders off the mat, leading to referee Jessika Carr counting the pinfall. On SmackDown, Apollo avenged his loss and pinned the champion.

Apollo Crews teamed up with Chad Gable and Otis to take on Big E and The Street Profits. Despite the star-studded team taking the fight to them, it was Apollo and the Alpha Academy that won the match, and Crews finally pinned the Intercontinental Champion.

This led to a WrestleMania match being booked between Apollo Crews and Big E for the IC Title. After his win, Crews guaranteed a new IC Champion at WrestleMania in a backstage interview.

“Did you not just see what happened out there. Of course I have what it takes, and I know what everybody is saying, how many times Big E has beaten me. But no matter how many times you lose, what matters is what you do after that. And what am I going to do? I’m going to beat Big E, and I’m going to become Intercontinental Champion and finally have what is mine.

“For anybody, anyone of you who doubts me out there, just watch. Watch very closely and I see what I do. I will be Intercontinental Champion.”

Three new WrestleMania matches confirmed on SmackDown

Both nights of WrestleMania 37 are looking fantastic with some high-profile matches. On SmackDown, WWE added three new matches to the card, and one match received a major modification.

Apollo Crews’ win over Big E in the six-man tag team match grants him a title shot against the Intercontinental Champion at WrestleMania. This will be Crews’ fifth shot at the IC Title since January.

Two non-title matches found their way onto the WrestleMania card in Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn and Cesaro vs Seth Rollins. The Messiah laid down the challenge for Cesaro, who gladly accepted his offer. As for Owens and Zayn, they will renew their decade-long rivalry on the Grandest Stage of them All.
