Hulk Hogan is one of the most recognized pro wrestlers in the world. The Hulkster rose to prominence in the 80s and remained a force to be reckoned with in the early part of the new millennia. However, Hogan has had an equal share of controversies during his run. One of the most controversial issues to plague the 69-year-old was allegations of steroid use. Even though he denied it, it left a dent in his career. Angry over the allegation, Hogan once cried foul against newspapers for ruining his reputation.

Hulk Hogan was unhappy with media speculation over his steroid usage

The early 90s proved to be a difficult time for Hogan and WWE. The company was ravaged by steroid use allegations and stars such as Hogan were caught in the midst. Media reports took the issue public and as a result, WWE found itself in troubled waters with many of its stars under scrutiny including Hogan,

Appearing on the Arsenio Hall Show in 1991, the 2x WWE Hall of Famer didn’t mince words as he tore into the media for speculating on his life. “I’m upset, outraged, and mad and all that other kind of stuff because basically the paper speculated when my name got thrown in the wringer, it turned into the Hulk Hogan Trial and they didn’t direct the focus on what this thing was all about,” Hogan said.

The WWE legend said the media trial cast a dark cloud on his legacy and all he believed in. “There’s million of kids that have believed me and what I stand for and basically it put a dark cloud over everything I believe in,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hulk Hogan is not the only big name to face steroid usage speculation. Last year, UFC commentator and podcast host Joe Rogan kick-started a debate after he called out The Rock.

At 51, Dwayne Johnson boasts of a physique that many athletes can dream of having at their peak. While Johnson himself posts photos and videos of his crushing workouts, likely as BTS of his gigantic frame, Rogan isn’t convinced.

He called out The People’s Champion to come out clean on steroid use. Rogan’s comments were speculative in nature since nothing has been proved thus far. While many took sides, The Brahma Bull refrained from sharing his side of the story.

Both Hulk Hogan and Dwayne Johnson have been generational WWE superstars, who have many things in common, including their alternate careers as actors. While Johnson managed to make it into a full-time gig, Hulk Hogan’s silver screen exploits were limited. Both had to endure the aforementioned allegations, but their legacies are widely remembered for their in-ring achievements.
