NXT TakeOver: WarGames was off to a stellar start, thanks to the top eight women of pro wrestling today. The pace of the match never slowed down, and the story progressed smoothly throughout. There was a time when Team Candice almost kept Io Shirai outside WarGames too!

Io Shirai ‘trashes’ through the sky

Io Shirai was the last one to enter the WarGames match from Team Shotzi. The NXT Women’s Champion went for the ladder before entering. The powerhouse even kicked Io from the door to keep her from entering and giving a 4-3 advantage to Team Shotzi over Team Candice.

Toni Storm did her bit by holding the WarGames door with her belt. Then Candice LeRae came out as the final entrant. Just as Io was about to get Candice, Indi Hartwell sneak attacked the NXT Women’s Champion.

Shirai wasn’t ready to give up. She tried climbing the steel structure, but Raquel Gonzalez pushed her from inside. Nothing could stop the ‘Genius of the Sky’ and she shook the world when she climbed on top, literally wore a trash can and jumped from over 20 feet high, taking out all the women below.

The high-risk move from Io Shirai impressed everyone! Although, we expected a Moonsault off the top. This was something new, which is nice! It takes a lot of courage to pull off such a hard move. But with the way Io jumped off the top, she legit ‘trashed’ the party!

High praise, nothing else!

Every woman gave her 1000% in the match, but it was Io’s trashing dive off the top that grabbed eyeballs. It was literally a moment where I missed Mauro Ranallo to the core. It was in all sense a “MAMA MIA!” moment.

Fans couldn’t stop praising the ‘Genius of the Sky’ for pulling it off as effortlessly as she did. Many couldn’t believe that it really happened!

Without a doubt, that was one hell of a move pulled off by Io Shirai. Although she took the losing pin for her team at the hands of Raquel Gonzalez, it looks certain that she is next in line to challenge Io for the NXT Women’s Championship.

WarGames was a different ballgame, and Io Shirai innovated to deliver the best offence. Will she do the same when Raquel Gonzalez steps up to her? I guess we must tune in to find out!
