Randy Orton has been part of many factions during his lengthy WWE career. He started off by aligning with Triple H and Ric Flair in Evolution. Orton massively benefited from his time at Evolution, which had his net worth skyrocket. He won his first World Championship at 24 while being associated with the faction.
In 2008, Orton formed another heel stable called Legacy. With new up-and-comers like Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase as his henchmen, Orton would go on one of his most successful runs in WWE. With Legacy’s help, he won the Royal Rumble, main evented WrestleMania, won the WWE Championship, and main evented nearly seventy percent of 2009’s PPVs.

Orton would fly solo till 2013, when he aligned with Triple H and the dreaded Authority. With The Viper at Stephanie McMahon and Triple H’s beck and call, WWE became a dangerous place for the rest of the locker room. After the Authority dissolved, Orton would also join the Wyatt Family in 2016. He would capture tag team gold and win the Royal Rumble during his association with the faction.
It is fair to assess Randy Orton’s success in WWE by his association with a certain faction. However, would Retribution really benefit from Randy Orton? Will the Apex Predator carry the faction out of obscurity and into the spotlight once again? We shall find out soon enough.

Why is Retribution failing?
Recruiting the Viper is just one step to lift Retribution out of trouble. The faction has been booked to look like a bunch of idiots, who cannot even use their numbers advantage, to their advantage. Instead of trying to vie for the main event spot of Raw, these superstars are busy trying to recruit Ricochet into their ranks.

WWE could’ve made the group look like a legitimate threat, but they dropped the ball very soon. By having The Fiend destroy and bury Retribution, WWE practically dug the grave where Retribution will rest. The attempted recruitment of Orton is mostly because he killed Wyatt, but by simple association with Orton, Retribution can go places.
A potential feud between Orton and Mustafa Ali for the leadership of Retribution will be a good filler feud. It will keep the Viper busy until the Fiend returns at WrestleMania to defang the Viper.
