Gunther, alongside his Imperium stablemate Ludwig Kaiser, appeared as a special guest for a recent edition of WWE The Bump. During the interview, he revealed he has some ill feelings toward Hart. In addition, he also expressed his desire to fight Hart.

He said, “He is not going to get anything nice from me. Too bad he is not in the state anymore to settle this in the ring. It would have been very interesting.” He acknowledged Hart as a wrestling legend but stated that his respect was only limited to his professional accomplishments. As a person, he is not very fond of him. But why is that?

Why does the IC Champ despise Bret Hart?

During the interview, the IC champ also revealed the reason for his aversion toward Hart. He stated that ‘The Heartthrob’ had made some rude comments about his match against Sheamus at WWE Clash at the Castle 2020 on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

Hart had expressed his disappointment with the match, as he didn’t like it. Those rude comments pierced Gunther’s heart like a sharp arrow. It has been more than a year since Hart criticized the Gunther vs. Sheamus match, which many critics deemed as brutally outstanding, but those harsh words have stuck with the Austria-born wrestler.

Gunther mentioned that since that day, his opinions of ‘The Hitman’ changed, and he grew bitter towards him. The IC champ pretty much summed up his feelings toward Hart in a few lines, clearing any doubt and implying that he dislikes Hart. But Hart hasn’t made any comments on whether the feeling is mutual or not.

But let’s not forget that wrestlers maintain kayfabe beyond the ring. Though Gunther said this himself, there is still a chance that he was in his heel character and didn’t want to break his gimmick to praise ‘the Heartthrob’. There have been numerous instances where wrestlers have brought kayfabe outside the ring, and this might just be one of those cases.
