Is WWE’s Treatment of LA Knight at Crown Jewel Linked to His Alleged Backstage Behavior Issues?

WWE Universe was heavily rooting for its favorite superstar, LA Knight at WWE Crown Jewel 2023. Knight had received a go at the Tribal Chief Roman Reigns for his prestigious WWE Championship after the promotion noticed the massive appeal he has. Despite this, the 40-year-old wrestler couldn’t overcome Roman Reigns and fell short.

While several fans knew that this wouldn’t be the last day of Reigns as the WWE Champion, many fans suspected something else. A number of fans are actually wondering whether LA Knight has heat backstage and is that the reason he lost the title match. Is this just a thin rumor, or does some truth actually lie here?

Does LA Knight really have a backstage problem?

LA Knight may be the most popular WWE wrestler right now in terms of both approval rating as well as merch sales. However, there have been some rumors about him not being good at backstage politics and hence not being favored. LA Knight himself once admitted there was some “residual heat” from the last time he was in WWE.

However, had this been a big problem, Knight wouldn’t be getting the treatment he’s getting now, including his match against Reigns. So, it seems Knight is still regarded by WWE as a prime star and is getting a push from the company. But does he have an attitude that rubs the people wrong way backstage? Here is what WWE Hall of Famer Booker T had to say about this.

According to Booker T, “I’ve heard guys say, ‘LA Knight, he’s got a bad attitude. I don’t know about this guy, he’s got a bad attitude.’ My thing is this, I’ve never really cared about getting heat with the boys as long as the boss liked everything that was going on. If the boss liked it, I was cool.” The WWE legend shared these words in his Hall of Fame Podcast. 

On the other WWE insider BWE responded to LA Knight having backstage heat on X, “Let’s shut this down. He’s absolutely loved. And very self focused.”

Thus, although LA Knight may have some issues backstage, they didn’t necessarily lead to him losing his match. In fact, his defeat wasn’t event the talking point after the match at Crown Jewel, it was the manner in which Reigns retained the title that irked fans.

Shoving the same old dish down WWE Universe’s throat

When LA Knight was selected as the number one contender to fight against Roman Reigns at Crown Jewel, everyone expected something new. However, their expectations were soon torn and dumped, as they witnessed a repeat of what they have watched multiple times in the title matches involving Roman Reigns.

WWE shoved the same old dish down the throats of fans. Despite being projected as a mighty ‘Tribal Chief’, Reigns secured another victory via means of interference.

Fans accused WWE of using the same old template in Reigns’ matches and expressed their displeasure at the predictable booking. As for LA Knight, it will be interesting what direction WWE takes with him next, now that he is not in the title picture. WWE’s booking of Knight in the coming months may give us an indication of they view “The Megastar” backstage.
