Stone Cold Steve Austin has always been one of the top performers on the roster. He always performed as an in-ring performer, as well as occasionally as a special guest referee. Recently, Stone Cold Steve Austin appeared on Ric Flair’s podcast and discussed several things. Amongst their discussion lay acting as a special guest referee as well.
The 58-year-old expressed his concerns with the position and claimed how much he dislikes the job, and how hard it is actually to be a referee than what it seems.

What did Stone Cold Steve Austin claim about hating the job of a special guest referee?
The Nature Boy joined in with him during the conversation and shared his views on being a referee. Flair also further discussed how he once acted as a guest referee during Austin’s match against The Undertaker, and it turned out to be his last outing as a referee.

Being a referee in any professional sporting event is much tougher than it seems. Speaking on the same lines, Austin agreed that although he has been in the wrestling business for a long period, he found refereeing very hard.
He said, “I hated referring. I have been in the ring, you(Ric Flair) have been in the ring twice as long as I have. But as much as you have wrestled, and you know kinda what a referee does. All of a sudden you are wearing a striped shirt, you don’t really know it.”
The 58-year-old further said, “You get the basics, but staying out of the way? And you know the mannerisms? It’s a whole different ball game mister.” The Nature Boy Ric Flair would join in the conversation and reveal how his job as a referee in Austin’s match turned out to be his last.

Flair narrated an extremely funny story of how his job as a referee frustrated Vince McMahon, and he relieved him of his refereeing duties. Flair said, ” I refereed his (Stone Cold Steve Austin) match with somebody. I came back, and Vince said, ‘Its your last referee job! You are the worst referee.’ I said, ‘I’ve never said I could referee.'”
Ric Flair wrestled his final match last year while tagging along with his son-in-law, and similarly, Steve Austin also had probably his final match last year against Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38. Both these legends are now way past their prime and are currently focussing on their health rather than their in-ring career.
