After rumors of his WrestleMania 39 match against Roman Reigns failed to materialize, the grapevine had it that Dwayne Johnson wasn’t match-ready. There were also some reports that The Great One wanted to avoid his past mistakes. Having wrestled in matches before, Johnson had injured himself, which forced his projects in Hollywood to get stalled. The 51-year-old wrestler-turned-actor reportedly didn’t want to experience a deja vu.
Five months after what could have been an epic clash between cousins, The Rock has finally chosen to address the issues and it’s more than what fans think.

Johnson states reasons why he chose to stay away from the WWE
Dwayne Johnson, in the midst of an ongoing strike in Hollywood, chose to grace the sets of the Pat McAfee Show in Colorado, hours before the new episode of SmackDown.

He addressed why he has not been seen in the WWE in nearly four years. Johnson’s last appearance in the promotion, previously owned by Vince McMahon, was in October 2019, as part of the 20th anniversary celebration of SmackDown.

“It’s not the injuries I’m concerned about. It’s not even the schedule, I control the schedule to a large degree,” he told the former WWE color commentator, adding, “It comes down to the reason why & what can we create, something we haven’t done for the fans.” The People’s champion also spoke about his rumored match against The Tribal Chief. He said that the match against Reigns at WrestleMania 39 was “locked” but didn’t materialize.

If anything, Dwayne Johnson’s admission about it is likely to make many sad. He said the match was locked, but the next thing fans saw was Reigns locking horns with Cody Rhodes at the SoFi stadium.
