

The world of wrestling can be very unrelenting. Years of bumps in the ring and regular travel involved can take a huge toll on the body. Many wrestlers in the past have resorted to substance abuse to cope with the rigors. Personal demons engulfed WWE legend Jake “The Snake” Roberts as well. However, he came out of this ordeal and recently described what guided him.
The WWE Hall of Famer achieved sobriety 11 years ago and talked about how he managed to overcome his long struggle with addiction.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts discusses his sobriety journey
He recently interacted with VladTV and discussed many topics including how he overcame his addiction. Roberts said, “Yeah, incredible I think what’s kept me sober is the joy that I’m having with this fresh new life. You know where everything is good where I like me and I like what I do, I like who I’m helping.”
He further added, “I enjoy do signings man, listen to these people stories how I affected them in their lives and when did they see me first. What were they doing with grandad or dad whatever you know. Just hearing these stories and watching their smiles that’s something I never experienced before”.
The business is full of examples of performers tending to take a shortcut and getting addicted. It requires immense courage to recognize one’s issues particularly if it leads to a strained relationship with the family.
And admittedly Roberts found the strength from his plethora of fans and bounced back remarkably. The legend who is currently contracted with AEW has always openly discussed wrestling’s past struggles with substance abuse.

He spoke about it in an appearance on his Snake Pit podcast last year. Roberts discussed that it was quite common back in the day for performers to indulge in various kinds of addiction.
He said it was nigh on impossible for someone to get through the day without any substance. Roberts cited the demanding schedule that performers had to follow in the past as a major reason.

It surely was a tough time for the business as many superstars from the past have admitted to having been engulfed by addiction.
Jake Roberts managed to emerge from the depths of addiction, making his journey a tough one. And as he himself pointed out, he found joy in the smallest things in life. The fans would be glad their favorite wrestler was able to come out of his struggles and embark on a journey of a healthy lifestyle.
