This holds true for any upcoming movie project or even a return to the squared circle. And Johnson supposedly snubbed an idea to face a Japanese legend in the wrestling ring.
The People’s Champ rejected the proposal to appear as the last opponent for an iconic wrestler. The performer was none other than Keiji Muto aka The Great Muta. He recently opened up on why the high-profile match did not go ahead.

Muta recently conversed with a journalist Marc Raimondi. He posted snippets of their talks on Twitter. In one of his posts, Raimondi wrote, “I asked Muto about the report he was trying to get The Rock as his last match. He nodded and said, in English with a smile, “too expensive.”

It would not come as a surprise for many, as it was rumored that the hefty fee involved was a reason for the dream match not materializing. Fans certainly missed out on a mouth-watering clash between the legends. It could have been a rare moment to see the wrestling heroes of two countries colliding in the squared circle.
For the unversed, the WWE will be inducting Muta to the Hall of Fame class of 2023. And while Johnson could not make it to his last match, it was another WWE superstar who lit up the ring by appearing in the match against Muta.
A WWE superstar appeared in the match instead
Former United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura stepped up to face his idol at Noah the New Year on January 1. While Muta, who is 60 years old, was understandably limited in his movement, the two nevertheless put on a great show for the audience. Nakamura ended up winning the historic encounter.

The former NWA Television champion planned to go against the WWE superstar at the Tokyo Dome itself. However, the refusal from the Stamford-based promotion initially led to him squaring off against Tetsuya Naito. WWE finally cleared Nakamura to compete against Muta at the aforementioned Noah event.
The Great Muta pointed out that it was the monetary aspects that prevented Dwayne Johnson from appearing in his last match. It could have been such that The Great One quoted such a high price so as not to return the ring. Whatever the case, fans missed out on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Nevertheless, Shinsuke Nakamura facing Muta definitely brought a smile to their faces.
