John Cena and Dwayne Johnson Possibly Set for Longer WWE Run Following Major SAG-AFTRA Update

Multiple million-dollar projects in Hollywood have been put on hold due to the SAF-AFTRA strike that has been going on for months now. While writers want fair compensation, actors are out of work. This strike resulted in two familiar faces returning to the WWE for a short stint, John Cena and Dwayne Johnson. However, it seems like they will be staying for longer than expected.

Near the end of September, SAG-AFTRA announced the ending of the strike, but a recent post on social media hints at the strike continuing.

SAG-AFTRA negotiations did not end

Hollywood has been a mess following strikes led by SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. This year, actors joined the Hollywood writers on the picket lines for the first time in 63 years.

The strike that started on May 2, 2023, continues with sad updates from the SAG-AFTRA representatives. There was hope back on September 24 after a tentative deal with the AMPTP was formed. However, a recent post seems to say differently.

Taking to Instagram, the official account of SAG AFTRA posted an update. The labor union said, “It is with profound disappointment that we report the industry CEOs have walked away from the bargaining table after refusing to counter our latest offer. We have negotiated with them in good faith, despite the fact that last week they presented an offer that was, shockingly, worth less than they proposed before the strike began.”

This could hint at the strike resuming until the demands are met. The strike has halted multiple projects in Hollywood. This is one of the reasons both Dwayne Johnson and John Cena could return for WWE storylines.

The future for John Cena and Dwayne Johnson

John Cena and Dwayne Johnson were supposed to have a short feud in the WWE while away from Hollywood. Cena returned to host Payback and acted as the special guest referee in the match between The Miz and LA Knight. Cena moved into a feud against Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa with the help of Knight at Fastlane 2023. Post Fastlane, Cena was supposed to return back to Hollywood. During the post-Fastlane press conference, Cena touched up on this matter and confirmed he was about to return.

Johnson’s plans in the WWE have not been fully revealed. Many believe he would take on Roman Reigns to end The Bloodline. However, nothing has been officially set in stone as yet. With Reigns nowhere to be seen, fans speculate that The Rock could be a guest referee at Elimination Chamber 2024, just like Cena at Payback. For now, until anything official is said, it is all speculation.
