John Cena has been one of the most famous wrestlers ever to grace a WWE ring. His never say die attitude and tremendous work ethic always separated him from the roster. The 2000s and the 2010s saw Cena sitting atop the promotion’s summit. He competed in many matches, featuring different stipulations during his illustrious career.
But even he would admit that none of those matches would come close to the bizarreness of his WrestleMania 36 Firefly Funhouse Match against Bray Wyatt. The cinematic match featured previous moments of Cena’s professional and personal life, even bringing up his breakup with Nikki Bella.

Cena and Wyatt had previously also encountered each other during a blockbuster feud in 2014. The Doctor of Thuganomics had bested The Eater of The Worlds at WrestleMania 30, a match that would be the main theme around their match in 2020. However, the sudden onset of the Covid-19 pandemic was the real reason behind the match turning into a cinematic match.
The odd encounter between John Cena and The Fiend
In a match that played out akin to a short film, both the superstars revisited their past personas. While Cena went on a wild ride from his initial days with the promotion to his days at the very top, and even appearing as an nWO member.

While Wyatt reignited his hugely successful Wyatt family persona in the 2010s, during the unusual match.
Wyatt referenced Cena’s past relationship with Nikki Bella
During one of the segments, Cena kept trying to grab hold of his opponent but kept failing constantly. And Wyatt went on to utter the line, ‘You can look but you can’t touch’. He directly quoted the main line of Cena’s ex Nikki Bella’s WWE theme song and made the contest personal at the same time.
Bella and Cena dated for about five years before deciding to get engaged in 2017. However, a year later, the couple decided to call off the engagement, breaking the hearts of many.

The Firefly Funhouse match ended up when The Doctor Of Thuganomics finally got a chance to unleash at Wyatt. However, the mystical wrestler in pure cinematic fashion, turned into a puppet and The Fiend appeared behind Cena instead. He applied the mandible claw and performed the dreaded Sister Abigail move to pick up the win.

It did take a while to comprehend the narrative behind the match, but it sure was something innovative. Given the fact that the bizarre encounter featured Wyatt taking a personal dig on John Cena regarding his ex-girlfriend, Nikki Bella did raise the stakes to an all-time high.
