

Hulk Hogan is one of the most decorated superstars in WWE history. The faith that Vince McMahon put on Hogan at the beginning of his revolutionary move to take WWE on tour was massive. In just a few years, Hogan fulfilled all of McMahon’s expectations and became bigger than ever. His outreach in North America and the wrestling industry were so large that he was the face of WWE for a long while.

Just, for instance, he was in the main event 8 times in the first 9 WrestleMania events. But tragedy would strike McMahon, Hogan, and WWE at this last WrestleMania main event when Hogan would return to the ring and beat Yokozuna in the main event to win the WWE Championship. But this was so unprecedented and hated by the fans that McMahon had to reverse the decision of the next PPV. And this would lead to Hogan quitting WWE for the first time in his career.

But the man who spearheaded the Hulkamania run would not stray away from wrestling. Soon after leaving WWE, the former WWE Champion would find himself in Japan. Here he would make a severe mistake. In a conference in Japan, we can see Hulk Hogan in this video saying, “This belt is just a toy. It’s like a trinket on a Christmas tree, like an ornament. The belt that I want is that the Great Muta has the IWGP belt.”
But the Hulkster had another idea with this one. Appearing in NJPW as the WWF Champion, Hogan would fight The Great Muta in a dream match and beat the IGPW Champion with a clean slate. But not only this match would hurt McMahon’s business extremely, but this would also lead to a decline for the entire company as Hogan would move to WCW.

In WCW, Hogan would start a faction that brought WWE to its knees. The nWo was not only popular in the rival company, but it consisted of the biggest ex-WWE stars. Kevin Nash, Razor Ramon, and Hulk Hogan would lead this next generation of wrestlers into the prime of WCW’s existence.
