As Cody Rhodes took to the ring on the night after WrestleMania XL, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson interrupted him. Coming out with the People’s Champion title, The Rock had unfinished business with Rhodes. After congratulating him for all he did to grasp the WWE Universal title off Roman Reigns, he had something interesting to say. This would lay the foundation for what is to come between The Final Boss and The American Nightmare.

Initially, fans expected The Rock to face Reigns once Rhodes dethrones him. However, this opening promo set the tone for what is about to come.

It all started when The Rock asked if he could hold Cody Rhodes’ title. After taking it and wearing it, Johnson said, “I just gotta say. This feels right.” This laid the breadcrumbs to what The Brahma Bull was about to say. The Rock claimed he would be going away for a while. This was a reference to his movie filming schedule for The Smashing Machine. According to reports, the filming will begin this month and last till August. This is around the time for SummerSlam. Before leaving, he did say, “Your story with Roman Reigns is over. Our story has just begun.”

This confirms that the Reigns and Rhodes saga has ended. However, it also implies that he will be after the new champion’s title once Johnson returns to the WWE. This upcoming feud will not be a tale of vengeance but a claim for the title.

Claiming that the title looked good on him was the first hint at The Rock’s intention. The major question that remains is whether The Rock will still team with The Bloodline to achieve his aspirations. While Reigns was dethroned and his story ended, The Rock and Rhodes’ tale has only just begun. An even more surprising element was the gift  Johnson bestowed upon Rhodes.

Just before leaving, Dwayne Johnson handed Cody Rhodes a gift from his pocket. The Rock ensured no one saw what it was and even mentioned that the former AEW star knew what it was without seeing it. Rhodes proceeded to place that gift in his pocket. Nevertheless, The Final Boss has already started playing his mind games as he aims to further his agenda. The imparting of the gift means that the feud between the two can only get more personal as the time for their clash edges closer.

This sparked an online debate as to what it could’ve been. While many claim it could’ve been a hint for what is to come, others believe it has something to do with Dusty Rhodes. The Rock has said multiple times that Dusty was his hero. What do you think? Will this feud be better than Rhodes and Reigns or The Rock and Reigns? Tell us in the comments.
