The late 1990s saw the infamous Monday Night Wars take place between WWE and WCW Nitro. Both these shows were filled with star power and were extremely over with the fans. However, Nitro was always ahead of WWE RAW on ratings mainly due to a heel Hulk Hogan and nWo running the show. Things looked good for Eric Bischoff’s promotion until they lost their way with many poor booking decisions. One of them is still talked about to this day.

Hulk Hogan’s infamous finger poke of doom was a big moment in WCW’s war with WWE. Soon after that infamous moment, the company’s ratings started plummeting and they never quite recovered from the hit. Hogan once addressed the issue and spoke about it.

What was the infamous Finger Poke of Doom?

At WCW, many top stars enjoyed creative control. Stars such as Kevin Nash and Hulk Hogan were two of them. When Nash came out and broke Goldberg’s undefeated record, Goldberg was out of action. Soon, Hogan would come out and announce his retirement, but only to come back one week later and challenge Nash for the world title.

What happened next is one of the most infamous moments in wrestling history. Hogan would poke Nash in the chest, who would then fall out and get pinned by Hogan. This moment brought down the ratings by a huge margin and thus began the decline of WCW.

What did Hulk Hogan say about the Finger Poke of Doom?

Over the course of his career, Hogan has been known for boosting the ratings, and winning the fan’s hearts. However, this time when he was partially responsible for bringing down WCW. He talked about the incident and apologized for what happened.

Hogan spoke on the infamous incident on WWE legends Biography season 3  He said, “Oh Finger poke of doom…wrong, makes no sense, embarrassment. Sorry I was a part of it. Can I take it back. I mean I have no words for it, it was completely wrong. Wrong thing to do.”

He completely accepted his part in the incident, and why it was wrong. WCW enjoyed great success with Hogan and nWo leading the charge, but after WWE started fighting back, the promotion began losing the plot. Creative decisions such as this led to a decline in its popularity and they lost the war big time to WWE.
