Former WWE Superstar Matt Cardona is now officially the new GCW World Champion. Matt won the title as he defeated Nick Gage At GCW: Homecoming night one.

After being released by WWE in 2020, Matt Cardona appeared on AEW Dynamite. However, it was a short stay at AEW for Cardona as his contract ran out in September 2020. After that, Cardona has been part of various wrestling promotions and recently made several appearances on Impact Wrestling.

Matt Cardona is the new GCW World Champion

Matt Cardona’s entry into the GCW Universe was absolutely surprising. The Former WWE superstar entered the ring during the Game Changer Wrestling’s Zombie Walk event in Atlantic City dressed as Jon Moxley.

He then attacked Gage and then revealed himself in front of a crazy audience, who went gaga over Cardona. The duo continued their confrontation as Gage crashed in a live stream hosted by Cardona, which led to GCW announcing a Title match between these two raging superstars at the GCW Homecoming event.

The match had a series of staggering moments with major intervention from Ricky Shane Page’s faction, 44OH!. At one point, the audience was startled to hear Chris Jericho’s Judas Theme song playing. But it turned out to be nothing more than a decoy.

In the early stages of the match, Gage gained huge momentum as he was the one who was in cruise control. But Cardona, who was bloodied up all over, found a way to win the match and swoop the title away from Gage.

Nick Gage finally loses his title

Nick Gage was one of the most imposing champions of the GCW brand. The two-time GCW World Champion held the title for over 100 days, and his defeat to Matt ends his streak.

Nick Gage recently debuted for AEW. He will take on AEW Superstar Chris Jericho in a No DQ match at Fight for the Fallen. Now that ‘MDK’ has turned his attention to AEW, GCW can now fully capitalize on the star power of Matt Cardona fka Zack Ryder.

Even after no longer being the popular Zack Ryder anymore, Matt Cardona still has a loyal fan base for him. His victory over Nick Gage was not received well by the fans as they threw trash in the ring.

However, GCW now has a great opportunity to cash in on Cardona as an infuriating heel. The match between Gage and Matt has now turned out to be the latest fuss, as it had some wild spots which were terrific even to match. Both Superstars were covered in blood at the end of the match because of the enormous pain inflicted on one another.
