Shelton Benjamin was his first opponent, who put him through the wrestling wringer. The former United States Champion was hell bent on preventing Riddle from challenging his CEO for the title. Benjamin had Riddle beat with a roll-up, but MVP had the referee distracted, which led to Riddle rolling him up for the win instead.

Finally, Riddle faced the defiant and aggressive Cedric Alexander. The youngest member of the Hurt Business came agonizingly close to putting Riddle away on a few occasions.
He delivered a DDT to Riddle while he had him in a fireman’s carry. The resilient Alexander even popped back up after eating a German suplex to deliver a brainbuster for another stunningly close nearfall.

This match had fans begging for a one-on-one PPV clash between Cedric and Matt Riddle, which would blow Lashley vs Riddle out of the water. The finish came when Riddle had Alexander locked in the triangle choke, and Alexander could not get himself out of it. Riddle then rolled him up for the finish.
With this stellar performance, Matt Riddle earned another shot at Bobby Lashley’s United States Championship. Although he’s submitted to the Hurt Lock before, we won’t be surprised to see him prevail with the United States Championship at the Royal Rumble.
