WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley wanted to extend his babyface run while he was tag team partners with The Rock. He believed the fans were enjoying the tag team segments and responding to it.

Even before WWE or Vince McMahon realized how popular The Rock ’N’ Sock Connection had become, Mick Foley knew. Hence, he called the WWE Chairman to ask him if he would consider letting him be babyface a while longer instead of turning heel on The Rock.

“I remember calling Vince and saying, ‘I don’t wanna do this heel turn. Vince, I feel like people are really responding. I realized that I’m coming slowly but surely to an end, my knees are giving me trouble. It’s real, people feel it on a definite basis, and that’s part of the reason I think why the character still resonates.”

However, he gave Mick Foley the benefit of doubt and let the tag team continue as it was instead of making Foley turn heel on The Rock.

“Because we didn’t do the turn, it allowed people to have those great memories of The Rock ‘n’ Sock Connection,. Fans come up to me, ‘You guys were the greatest tag team in history’. And I’ll say, ‘Can you name one match we had?’ They can’t but they do remember how we made them feel.” H/t Sportskeeda

Initially, McMahon was skeptical. He wanted the heel turn to go ahead as planned instead of delaying it. He changed his mind about The Rock ‘N’ Sock Connection after the tag team took part in ‘This Is Your Life’ segment in 1999. The segment drew a rating over 8.3.

Mick Foley continued to make fans happy after retirement

Foley is one former Superstar who doesn’t have a lot of his memorabilia. Considering the various characters he played with unique elements and gear, he could have had a tonne.

However, Foley donated a lot of it to the children who were suffering from incurable diseases. In fact, he heartily accepted when children requested to be buried with the iconic Mick Foley items they received.
