In 2017, WWE signed Bennett and his wife, Maria, who was a former WWE superstar. While their subsequent run didn’t pan out, they are more relevant than ever right now. Speaking to Metro UK, the former 24/7 Champion talked about how WWE planned on making him Sister Abigail, and how he thought the story would pan out.

“We were about a week away from making it happen where me and Eric Young were gonna be part of Bray Wyatt’s group. We were gonna actually be–they were gonna bring to life the puppets. Each puppet was gonna represent an actual person. I don’t remember, there were talks that I was gonna be Sister Abigail and Eric Young was gonna be a buzzard.”

“It was one of those things where, “You guys will play these characters”. He’s portraying them as the puppets [in the Firefly Fun House], but then they’ll come to life. I thought it was really cool, I was ready to sink my teeth into it. But then like most stuff there, right before it happens they’re like, “Oh yeah we’re not doing that anymore”. You’re like, “Oh, oh OK cool. That would have been a really cool spot but I guess I’ll go sit in catering.”

Having left WWE a year ago, Mike Bennett and Maria Kannelis are enjoying a wonderful run in Ring of Honor. After his ninety-day clause expired, Bennett laced up his boots and went back to work. He wrestled the NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis at United Wrestling Network’s Primetime Live PPV.

His return to ROH was big news, especially since he rescued his former teammate Matt Taven from Vincent and Bateman. He and Taven even challenged Tracy Williams and Rhett Titus for the ROH Tag Team Championships.
