The Rock‘s enigmatic charisma and smooth mic skills were enough to make anybody drool over him. Just like his highest-paid Hollywood career, DJ used to be a brand in the Stamford-based company during his era. Those who got the luck to share the ring with him barely left without taking a bow to The Great One.

However, WWE legend Rey Mysterio didn’t need to work alongside him to acknowledge and respect his talent as a wrestler. The LWO member is also very fond of Johnson under the cover of his monumental achievements in the film industry or the pro wrestling world. The 48-year-old absolutely adores the appreciation he received from the multi-time WWE World Champion.

The elder Mysterio has had a commendable run under the company through the years. He attained substantial accolades and garnered a lot of praise from fans and WWE insiders as well. But nothing matches the intensity of getting the approval of Dwayne Johnson.

During one of their brief interaction, The Rock told Mysterio that he has been a fan of him since watching him in WCW. It was a validation of life to Rey.

In the book named ‘Rey Mysterio: Behind the Mask‘, the Hall of Famer recalled special words from The Rock. Explaining how special it was to him, the veteran noted, ”He told me he’d love to work with me if he ever had the chance. Which was really flattering. Here was a guy I admired as a star in Hollywood as well as in the ring. He said he wanted to work with me. He confessed to me that he had watched me back during my WCW days. And that was the only thing he watched on the show.”

I think we all look up to and admire The Rock on different levels. My respect to Hogan but The Rock took it all to another level. ‘ the former Grand Slam winner went on heaping praise on The Rock.’

The masked wrestler expressed his regret over not having a dream match against DJ several times in the past, and it seems he still couldn’t make peace with it. But the desire for that high-voltage match was mutual. DJ was equally interested in facing the WWE legend in the ring. It was just the destiny that didn’t let that happen.

Johnson has had many classic bouts inside the ring before he shifted to a part-time schedule for a rousing Holywood career. During his prime time under the company, DJ faced almost every heavyweight star on the roster, including John Cena, Triple H, Ston Cold, and many more. But WWE never got the chance to pit him against Rey Mysterio, something The Rock himself is not very happy about.

During the 2008 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, he mentioned three wrestlers he wished he could wrestle. One of them was Mysterio. Considering he put him on the same level as John Cena and Shawn Michaels, it showed how much respect he had for the luchador.
