

During the lockdown, the online streaming platforms have shot up in popularity. The biggest of them all, Netflix, is now showing interest in the world of sports-entertainment and its royalty, Vince McMahon.
According to Wrestling Observer, Netflix is working on a new multi-part document series on Mr. McMahon. Nick Khan, WWE’s new President & Chief Revenue Officer, revealed in WWE’s Q3 2020 earnings call that WWE has signed a “groundbreaking new deal” with Netflix.

According to Khan, the deal is groundbreaking because it is one of the highest-budgeted documentaries in Netflix history. Bill Simmons will produce the project along with WWE Studios. Simmons worked on HBO’s 2018 documentary on Andre the Giant.
Chris Smith, director of Netflix’s Fyre Fest documentary, will be the director and producer.

Vince McMahon has a fascinating life
There was news of a biopic back in 2017, but that never took off. McMahon has an interesting story of his classic rags-to-riches history.
From an abused teenager, McMahon went on to become a billionaire (the first one in sports entertainment).

He grew up in a North Carolinian trailer home with an abusive stepfather. After he was older, McMahon reconnected with his biological father and WWE’s founder Vincent J. McMahon. Then, he learned the nooks and crannies of the business to make WWE what it is today. He is now worth almost $1.6 billion.

Even Vince understands the importance of streaming platforms. He revealed in the same meeting that he is not concerned about ratings as viewers are watching through other platforms. The Chairman claimed WWE is better as they have “better writing and better execution.”
Hopefully, we will get to see the series soon and learn more about Vince McMahon’s intriguing life.
