9 Years After Dwayne Johnson Laid the SmackDown on Them, Ex WWE Stars to Become the First Wrestling Couple to Star in a “Movie” Together

Former WWE superstars and real-life couple Lana and Rusev are widely known for their stints in WWE during the mid-2010s. The couple made their debut, playing the gimmick of fierce Russians. With Lana in his corner, Rusev vanquished many superstars he crossed paths with, including John Cena.

At first, Lana was playing the role of Rusev’s wrestling manager. However, the pair officially got married in 2016. At present, both Rusev and Lana are no longer associated with the WWE. In fact, they are on their path to being the first ex-WWE couple to be cast in a movie together.

Rusev had a moderately successful run in the Stamford-based company. One of the most significant high points of his career in WWE was his feud with John Cena. Who can forget Rusev’s iconic WrestleMania 31 entrance? The Bulgarian wrestler made his way to the ring, riding a tank. However, the former United States Champion later jumped ship and debuted in AEW as ‘Miro’ in 2020. 

As for Lana, after a fairly successful run in WWE, she was let go in 2021. Lana‘s release was tied to Covid-19 budget cuts. After wrestling, Lana, whose real name is CJ Perry, got busy with non-wrestling projects. Furthermore, amidst their new careers away from WWE, Lana took to social media to announce the couple’s involvement in a new movie. 

Taking to Twitter, Lana revealed that she and Miro are starring abreast as “assassins” in a new movie. She also relayed that they are working alongside one of Miro’s favorite sitcom stars. She wrote, “Grateful to do a movie with @ToBeMiro as assassins with one of his favorite sit com stars!!!!! Can’t wait to share details.”

In the picture posted by Lana, the wrestling power couple is seen standing side by side in Manhattan. The idea of watching both stars on the silver screen as assassins is very compelling. Let’s not forget, CJ Perry has experience in movies. The former SmackDown Women’s Champion was seen in movies like Wifelike, Pitch Perfect, Cosmic Sin, and more.

It will be interesting to see the couple making their appearance together in Hollywood. Speaking of Hollywood, Lana and Rusev were once embarrassed by Hollywood’s megastar.

When Rusev made his main roster debut, he had massive influence due to his intimidating physique. The 37-year-old star set out on one of the longest winning streaks in WWE. As a matter of fact, he reveled in his massive win over one of Dwayne Johnson’s biggest rivals, John Cena. 

But, ‘The Bulgarian Brute’ and Lana were ridiculed in Brooklyn when they came face-to-face with ‘The Great One’. During the promo, ‘The Brahma Bull’ started off by describing how his day went from waking up to arriving at the arena. He was then rudely interrupted by Lana, who even told The Rock to “shut up”.

Furthermore, Rusev prepared to lay his hands at The Rock before running into a series of electrifying strikes by Johnson.
