The WWE Universe has recently been given the name of the first inductee for the 2023 WWE Hall of Fame. It is none other than the masked legend, Rey Mysterio. After this marvelous news reached everyone, people responded with delight. But definitely not Dominik Mysterio. He wickedly showcased disdain toward his father, but one of his former rivals congratulated him. 

Not only did the former WWE wrestler give the best compliment to his former in-ring rival, but also revealed an interesting tidbit from their WrestleMania match which came as a shock to everyone.

WWE Hall of Famer reveals the reason behind his loss in his final match against Rey Mysterio

Similar to the feeling of numerous WWE fans, Jon Bradshaw Layfield aka JBL, also felt that The Giant Killer was well-deserving for getting the HOF honor. Hence, he took to Twitter to share congratulate his rival from the past and added a revelation along with it. 

He wrote, “Congrats to Rey-imo the greatest masked wrestler of all time, well deserved honor.”

However, I have to finally tell the truth about my loss to Rey at Wrestlemania. Not trying to make excuses but I had a very high fever that day (98.7) and the sniffles. Should be an asterisk,” JBL added.

The match that the former WWE Champion mentioned was their final match that took place nearly 14 years ago. The match had an abrupt ending that came as a shock to everyone.

What happened in WrestleMania 25 surprised everyone

The match between The Master of the 619 and JBL from the night of WrestleMania 25 was one of the unique matches at the event. The two were engaged in a little feud before that as well. However, on the PPV, they were fighting for the Intercontinental Championship. 

The shocking factor of that lies in the duration of the match. To everyone’s surprise, it lasted for just 30 seconds and Mysterio ended up winning the title. Even after laying a few punches to Mysterio before the match started, Layfield couldn’t secure the title as Mysterio left everyone stunned.

Soon after his loss at WrestleMania, JBL cut a promo to announce his retirement and that he will leave WWE. Two years later, he came back as a color commentator to the promotion and then, with time, dived into several other roles.
