Paul Heyman is a gift to the world of professional wrestling – a gift so rare and precious that it holds significant value even today. We all know how great of a pro wrestling mind Heyman has, but alongside that, he is undoubtedly one of the finest speakers in the history of the business.

These days, Paul Heyman serves as the ‘Special Counsel‘ to WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns on SmackDown. This association shocked everyone, as his name was synonymous with only one man – ‘The Beast Incarnate’ Brock Lesnar.

After Brock Lesnar’s quiet departure/hiatus from WWE last year, it seemed highly unlikely that Heyman would return on-screen without him.

To add to his misery, he was fired as the Executive Director of Raw. However, all hope wasn’t lost as they kept him around as an on-screen talent. But why? The answer is Roman Reigns.

The ‘Special Counsel’ recently sat down with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated for an interview. During the interview, Heyman shared that he never thought he’d return to WWE TV in any other role after his long and rich history with Brock Lesnar.

Heyman said, “I cannot begin to convey how reluctant I was to ever do anything in this industry after the eight years, let alone the 18 years, that I put together with Brock Lesnar.”

Heyman also added that with so many accolades under his belt as Lesnar’s advocate, he never thought they would bring him on TV again.

Heyman explains his work with Roman Reigns

Paul Heyman returned to WWE TV on the SmackDown after SummerSlam. However, he is not Reigns’ mouthpiece, advocate, or manager. He is the ‘Special Counsel’ to the ‘Tribal Chief.’

Explaining his role with Roman Reigns, Heyman explained, “At this stage, the Paul Heyman promo is to enlighten the audience as to just how talented, how great and how marketable the opponent for Roman Reigns is, and then, by contrast, even if Roman Reigns’s opponent is a 12 on a scale of zero to 10, he’s still not at Roman Reigns’s level.”

Paul Heyman has never been a one solution fits all kind of a man. His character with CM Punk was different than his character with Brock Lesnar.

Similarly, his character, his role, is way different with Roman Reigns. Reigns can talk for himself, Heyman plays a catalyst that obliges to his ‘Tribal Chief’s’ command.
