But one person that the People’s Champ himself admires is his father, the late great Rocky Johnson. As we all know, The Rock comes from a long lineage of wrestlers and most of his family had worked in WWE before it was even under Vince McMahon.

And not only that, he was the biggest star to take over WWE till the arrival of his cousin Roman Reigns. While Reigns hasn’t had any wider scope in his wrestling career, the way he has grabbed the audience and became a big deal is remarkable compared to his earlier runs.

But ultimately, The Rock made a career out of wrestling and became the highest-paid actor in Hollywood in 2019. And he releases movies under his own production company, Seven Bucks Production. So how did his father account for any of this?

Becoming the first African-American to hold titles in WWE, Rocky Johnson won the WWE Tag Team Championships in 1983. But more than that, there is nothing that the history books hold. Johnson was your run-of-the-mill wrestler who pursued wrestling as an option to put food on the table. But when it came to teaching his son, Dwayne, about the sport, he resisted. He had seen the darkness that wrestling fame brings and he denied his son.

Moreover, after convincing him to go all out with this venture, Johnson helped his son join WWE under the amalgamated name of his ring name and his father’s, Rocky Maivia (Rocky from Rocky Johnson and Maivia from Peter Maivia). While he made an appearance when The Rock wasn’t still in the public consciousness, the cocky heel’s presence meant no more daddy at the ringside.

In a video, forgotten under the heaps of WWE content, we can see a young 11-year-old Dwayne Johnson cheering his dad as Rocky Johnson makes an entrance. Even in the video, it is very apparent that Dwayne Johnson was way bigger than kids his age. As people on the internet were quick to say that he looked 15 or 16 years old.
