“Mysterio teamed up with his son, Dominik, to defeat Seth Rollins & Murphy at the live WWE Network special. He was originally scheduled to face Seth Rollins on Raw in a match where the winner would advance to a Triple Threat Match later in the night, which would determine WWE Champion Drew McIntyre’s opponent at WWE Clash of Champions. Dominik will replace his father in the bout.”

Dominik Mysterio stepped in as a replacement on Monday Night RAW against Seth Rollins. The Messiah defeated Dominik and advanced to the triple threat match later that night.

However, after the injury to Mysterio, the future of this rivalry has become uncertain.

Rey Mysterio re-signed with WWE because of Dominik

It is a given for any wrestling promotion that if the greatest luchador is available – one must sign him. That’s exactly what AEW wanted to do.

Cody Rhodes, in various interviews, has expressed his desire to bring the ‘Master of the 619’ to the land of elite wrestling. AEW had many negotiations with Rey Mysterio.

According to Dave Meltzer, Mysterio decided to stay in the WWE even though AEW gave him a good offer. AEW matched WWE’s “per-match offer”; however, the total value was less because the WWE deal had more dates.

Even then, his son Dominik was the primary reason behind Rey’s decision.

“I can’t confirm pen to paper, but Rey Mysterio is staying, as was always the betting line outcome of this, but it’s as close to official without confirmation of it being official, and obviously Dominik is a big part of that deal. AEW made an offer that equaled the WWE’s per-match offer, but the WWE offer was higher because it was for more dates. We don’t have a time frame past this new deal would be considerably longer than the previous (18 months) deal but not the five-years or longer deals that WWE has tried to get everyone on,” Dave Meltzer revealed.

WWE faithful will definitely see Mysterio competing in the ring for at least 18 more months.
