Christian is now an AEW Superstar and aims to make things big for himself. Being a bonafide legend of the business, he wants to end his historic career on a high.

The former WWE Superstar probably didn’t feel that the company could get him where he wants, and he would always be the mid-card player. He would be booked accordingly, and Christian knew it was time for a change.

‘Captain Charisma’ has every right to hold his opinion, since WWE did cur him a pretty unfair deal during his tenure. Apart from constantly being seen as Edge’s best friend, he was never really given the push that he deserved.

An example of this would be his only ever main title run in WWE with the World Heavyweight Championship. Christian managed to beat Alberto Del Rio, Edge’s Arch rival, to win the Championship in a ladder match.

‘The Rated-R Superstar’ was forced to relinquish his gold due to a career-threatening injury, and Del Rio and Christian both threw their swords in.

In a highly intense encounter, Christian managed to win the title, a moment that brought tears to Edge’s eyes. He had the pleasure of seeing his best friend finally go up to the big stage, but the happiness was short-lived.

WWE made Christian a heel for no apparent reason

The following week on SmackDown, Randy Orton attacked Christian and demanded a title shot. Accepting it, Christian stepped into a trap and was destroyed by Orton, who easily clinched the World Heavyweight Championship from ‘Captain Charisma’.

Not only did he have a very short reign but was also wasted as the best babyface Champion WWE could present. Furthermore, he was made to turn heel and attack Orton, switching the roles in the process.

WWE made him a ‘bad guy’ and turned Randy Orton into the babyface while Christian lost his support from the previous role. This move was probably what ended up ruining him in WWE.

As a heel, Christian never really got back to the babyface that everyone loved. The fact is that no one really wanted to boo him and that’s why the heel turn did not really make sense.

AEW may have bigger plans in store for Christian Cage and his title shot with Kenny Omega proves it. We will just have to wait and see if he truly reaches the level he wants to in this last run.
