Where Is Murphy? The Real Reason Behind the WWE Superstar’s Absence From Live TV

WWE carries on its weekly shows as usual and everything seems normal, except one thing that has gone blatantly unnoticed by fans across the entire month of January- Where is Murphy?

A part of the over-dragged storyline between Rey Mysterio and Seth Rollins was Murphy, who acted as the blind follower of Rollins until he turned on his ‘master’ and began an awkward romantic relationship with Mysterio’s daughter, Aalyah.

Through the second half of 2020, WWE played this storyline until fans got bored with it. It managed to somehow survive the draft as the story was shifted from Raw to SmackDown. 

The fans did not catch on to the concept of a romantic angle between Aalyah Mysterio and Murphy since it felt pushed and uncalled for. However, WWE went ahead with it and now every bridge is burned with that unpopular storyline. 

Murphy has completely disappeared from TV after losing to King Corbin on the December 4, 2020, episode of SmackDown, and his absence has gone unnoticed. The major reason for this is quite simple.

WWE creative has nothing for Murphy

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE creative has no place for the former disciple of Rollins. After the exhaustion of the romantic angle, creative sees no road to bringing back Murphy.

This means that until there is a window of opportunity, he will not return to on-screen action. If he does come back, there will surely be a persona change, or he may see himself back in NXT.

Since they share similar problems with WWE, perhaps Murphy could join Retribution on Monday Night Raw? 

WWE’s creative team has notoriously informed various Superstars that they have nothing for them, and the same line has been repeated. Most of the time, these Superstars are victims of bad storytelling or poor bookings and suffer for no fault of their own.

Murphy is, unfortunately, another victim of this, and he will have to analyze his options in the coming weeks. The fact that we did not see him in the Royal Rumble is also another concerning factor for his status in the company.
