Renowned Wrestling Journalist Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer News provided major information to fans regarding Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania. After winning the Royal Rumble 2024, he challenged Roman Reigns for the title but was soon interrupted by Seth Rollins on this week’s RAW.

The promo has confused fans who are waiting for Cody Rhodes to finish his story by ending Roman Reigns’ record run. However, as per Meltzer, WWE has a legitimate reason behind changing the storyline mid-way that has upset many fans.

Meltzer stated how Dwayne Johnson was involved in the decision making and how external factors resulted in the change of match cards. He said, “The Rock pushed super hard for it. The [#WrestleMania 40] card changed when CM Punk & Brock Lesnar were out and all the dominoes fell. Dwayne already wanted it and they [WWE] felt they now needed it as well. Felt this was better to change the news flow away from Vince.

While Dwayne Johnson had expressed his desire last year for a WrestleMania match against his cousin Roman Reigns, it was not until RAW Day 1 episode this year we got to know it was happening. CM Punk found himself on the injury list after his heroics at Royal Rumble, while Brock Lesnar was erased from plans due to being implicated in the controversy surrounding his boss, Vince McMahon.

As of now, the match card expected for the WrestleMania main events are: Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins for WWE World Heavyweight Championship on Night 1 and Rock vs. Roman Reigns for WWE Undisputed title on Night 2. Though, many WWE fans are happy to see The People’s champ return for one final chapter, they are disappointed by the fact that WWE compromised Rhodes’ push for the same. Well, Meltzer has an answer for that too.

Vince McMahon indirectly affects the progress of Cody Rhodes

Explaining the sudden change in plans, Meltzer said, “Cody was the plan. Dwayne was going to face him [Roman Reigns] later, maybe next year’s Mania, maybe Saudi. The Vince thing ends up worse than they thought and they changed the plan. 100% it was Punk vs Seth and Cody vs Reigns until Punk got hurt.
