When it comes to WWE stars returning, there are two key aspects about it. The first is whether they are big enough to make up a good business decision and whether the head honcho is okay with it. At first, this was Vince McMahon, and now it’s Triple H. A wrestler can return to the WWE if both checkboxes are ticked. The most recent one was CM Punk‘s return after almost a decade.

One former WWE star believes the current absence of Vince McMahon is why Punk had the return he did.

There was a time before Punk left the WWE when fans believed he would never be allowed back into the WWE. WWE fans made themselves believe that Punk would never be seen in Vince Playground after what he said about the WWE and Vince McMahon. However, all that changed at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames, where he returned at the end of the show.

Cut to 2024, and now he is the hottest star in the business, in a feud for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. So, how did that happen?

How did McMahon allow Punk back into the WWE? According to one former WWE star, it was not McMahon but the current Head of Creative, Triple H, who made it happen.

Ethan Carter III, or EC3, was recently on Chris Van Vliet’s podcast. He talked about his time in the WWE and his current endeavors. During this, he was asked about Punk’s return, and he had something interesting to say. Carter said, “With Vince kind of not as hands-on, I think that was a lot of the budding heads.” McMahon was known to rule with an iron fist, and what he said was final.

However, since stepping down and allowing his son-in-law, Hunter, to take control of the WWE, even fans have praised the new direction. Cater continued, “I think Trips is way easier to collaborate with”. The WWE has seen a massive change since Hunter has been involved. Finally, Carter said, “I think there’ll be a compromise where everybody wins and it’s probably going to do really good business.”
