This is by no means the wrestler’s first brush with negative press. Del Rio, or known by his real name Jose A. Rodriguez Chucuan was released from the WWE due to unprofessional conduct and getting into an altercation with an employee.
Chucuan was arrested in San Antonio and charged with sexual assault, a second-degree felony. His bail was posted at $50,000 dollars which he paid and left police custody. The in-depth description of the crime is harrowing, and if proven, may see some serious jail time for the fallen star.
Life after WWE
Del Rio has been wrestling with other promotions since his departure from WWE. Under the name Dos Caras and Alberto El Patron, he has wrestled for AAA, Ring of Honor, and Lucha Underground. Del Rio returned to the WWE for a brief stint but was suspended for violating the wellness policy. The former wrestler also tried his luck in the world of mixed martial arts, where he lost to Tito Ortiz. The former WWE star had settled down in San Antonio and had become a naturalized US citizen.
Tarnished image and reputation
Alberto Del Rio was undoubtedly one of the most popular stars in the early 2010s. His feuds with the likes of Sheamus and Rey Mysterio were exciting to behold. Such a fall from grace is unfortunate to see, especially for someone who was at one point, a top wrestler in WWE. His ugly split from fellow WWE Star Paige was also a time of strife for the wrestler. Overall, Del Rio is not a stranger to these hard times. But if the charges are confirmed, it could put a huge stain on the image of the WWE, which tries to promote likable and charismatic superstars.
